On the eve of New Year's Day, fireworks from Liuyang, Hunan Province, were selling well in German supermarkets, triggering people to queue up at 4 a.m. to buy them.
Liuyang City is the hometown of fireworks in China, and fireworks account for 70% of China's export market. In 2024, the export value of Liuyang's fireworks and firecrackers industry will be 6.58 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 24.9%, showing a trend of steady improvement and steady growth.
"Thunderbird Rocket" has become a hit in German supermarkets "I have seen the short video of Germans queuing up at 4 o'clock in the morning to grab fireworks for the New Year, and the Thunderbird Rocket fireworks in it are produced by us." Mr. Tang, the person in charge of Liuyang Jiteng Fireworks, said excitedly. The company is one of the largest suppliers of fireworks in German supermarkets, exporting tens of millions of dollars a year.
Hot selling Thunderbird rocket pack in Germany
According to Mr. Tang, the fireworks exported to the EU are mainly three categories: Thunderbird rocket packs, combination fireworks and toy mixed packs. Among them, the Thunderbird Rocket is the sales champion of supermarkets and is deeply loved by German consumers.
"Fireworks are a must-have program for Germans to welcome the New Year's Eve, in Germany, adults generally play 'Thunderbird rockets' and combined fireworks, and children play combined toys and small fireworks." Mr. Tang said that there are strict restrictions on fireworks sold in German supermarkets, and they must be Class I and Class II products to ensure the safety of fireworks. Liuyang fireworks have stable quality, good discharge effect and safety guarantee, so they are more favored by German dealers.
According to Mr. Tang, the export of fireworks in 2024 will increase by more than 15% compared to the same period of the previous year. The foreign market is growing steadily year by year, and customers report that the warehouses of European fireworks dealers will be sold short in 2024, and orders will be placed again in November of that year, and it is expected that the export volume of fireworks will rise in 2025.
Dutch Internet celebrities bought Liuyang's fireworks products
Liuyang Yuanfeng Fireworks specializes in exporting fireworks, and its products are exported to the United States, the European Union, Russia and other countries and regions. "The combination fireworks we produce 'Earth Fireworks' are very ornamental and very popular in Germany, and can be sold for millions of yuan a year." Liu Yifeng, the person in charge of the enterprise, said.
In 2024, Hengtai Fireworks Trading Co., Ltd. in Wenjia Town, Liuyang City, won foreign trade orders of 150 million yuan, an increase of 25% over the previous year, and 80% of the fireworks produced were exported to the United States and the European Union.

"In 2024, hundreds of fireworks containers will be exported to Germany and the Netherlands, with a value of tens of millions of yuan, mainly in three categories: combination of potted flowers, rockets and small toys." Zhou Zhiming, the person in charge of the enterprise, introduced.
Wen Guanghui, president of the export branch of the Liuyang Fireworks and Firecrackers Association, introduced that with the cancellation of the ban on fireworks in Europe, consumption in the European market has resumed growth, and Europe and the United States have become the main markets for Hunan fireworks and firecrackers exports.
Wenjia Town, an important export town of fireworks in Liuyang, will have a main business income of 1.06 billion yuan in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 35.7%, accounting for 20% of Liuyang's fireworks exports. Of the 44 fireworks enterprises in the town, 39 are engaged in export business.

Chuangmei fireworks, an enterprise in the town, is exported to more than 10 countries such as the United States, France, and Portugal all year round, and registered as a trading company in 2022, and its performance in 2024 has increased by 30% year-on-year. According to Hu Yanping, a shareholder of Chuangmei Fireworks, fireworks manufacturers can accelerate the return of funds by establishing their own trading companies, and their own factories can ensure high-quality and on-time delivery.
"70 to 80 percent of the fireworks consumed in Germany are produced in Liuyang." Lu Dongmei, head of Liuyang Wanlida Fireworks Manufacturing Co., Ltd., said that Liuyang fireworks quality control, color and environmental protection are all excellent.
